Have you ever found yourself manoeuvring through a maze of misplaced items, muttering, “There are too many things with nowhere to go!”?  If so, you’re not alone.  The struggle with disorganisation in classrooms and offices is a familiar tale.  In this article, we’ll provide you with some helpful tips and tricks for classroom and office organisation and storage.

Strategies for Classroom and Office Organisation

Clear Clutter – Begin by assessing the necessity of items and declutter accordingly. Dispose of outdated or unnecessary items, only keeping what is essential. (Please be mindful before disposing of items to ensure that you are not legally entitled to keep them).

Categorise – Categorise items based on their use and relevance.  Establishing categories should determine items that are used frequently.

Accessibility – Arrange frequently used items within easy reach.  Prioritising accessibility help minimise disruptions and saves time; this is especially important in a classroom where disruptions should be minimal.

Labelling – One easy, efficient way to ensure that your space stays organised is by using labels to show where items are kept, for example on the front of trays.  We have a wide range of Label sizes that can be handwritten or printed on.  Using labels to indicate where items are can have the benefit of empowering children with valuable skills, as they would be able to find and replace items they use.  In an office, labels can help to save time as the staff will know where to find items.  It would also help keep organised as it ensures that everything goes back in its place.

The design and layout of school classrooms play a crucial role in creating an effective learning environment. One often overlooked but vital aspect of this design is the selection of the right table and chair heights. Properly sized furniture not only contributes to students’ comfort but also enhances their concentration and overall well-being.

Below is a diagram illustrating recommended heights of tables and chairs:

Why Does Height Matter?

Before we discuss the significance of appropriate table and chair heights, let’s understand why it matters in the first place. Properly sized furniture in schools has numerous advantages:

  • Ergonomic Comfort: One of the primary reasons for choosing the right height is to ensure ergonomic comfort. When students sit at desks and chairs that are the correct height for their age and size, they are less likely to develop discomfort, pain, or poor posture.
  • Focus and Concentration: Comfortable seating and work surfaces promote better focus and concentration. When students are at ease physically, they can pay more attention to their lessons, resulting in improved academic performance.
  • Health and Wellbeing: Poorly designed classrooms with ill-fitting furniture can lead to physical discomfort and, in the long run, chronic health issues. Choosing the right height can help prevent these problems and promote overall well-being.
  • Inclusivity: Every student is unique, and schools must accommodate a diverse range of needs. Selecting adjustable furniture is a great option to allow all students to comfortably engage in learning activities, this is especially important for wheelchair users.

Choosing the Right Heights

Now that we understand the importance of appropriate table and chair heights, let’s explore how to choose the right heights for your school’s classrooms.

  • Age and Year group: Consider the age and Year Group of the students who will use the furniture. Nursery students will require smaller chairs and tables than secondary school students. Ensure that the furniture accommodates the age group appropriately.
  • Adjustable Options: Whenever possible, opt for adjustable furniture. This allows for flexibility as students grow and change. Adjustable desks can be adapted to suit different age groups and individual needs such as wheelchair users. View our large range of height adjustable furniture here.
